The $1 million Physical Education Program Grant the district received has opened up new physical education opportunities for elementary school students.

The grant helped pay for transportation costs so Darien Elementary School students could learn bowling at Delavan Lanes, and so Wileman Elementary students could learn how to swim at Delavan-Darien High School. The grant also funded lifeguard staffing requirements for the swimming.

Without the grant, many such opportunities within the Delavan-Darien School District wouldn’t exist, or they would rely on other funding sources to be accomplished. The grant has helped open new doors to fitness for life activities for students throughout the district.

Earlier in the year, elementary students in the district received karate instruction at their school with a local instructor.
