Comets steamroll Whitewater in opener

Comets Football HelmetToday’s (Saturday’s) dip in the dunk tank at the S.M.I.L.E.S. fundraiser should be a refreshing relief for the Comets football team. The Comets were on fire as they burned Whitewater 62-7 Friday at Borg Memorial Stadium in the season’s first game.

Three Comets players rushed for more than 100 yards each, Ricky Wojciechowski with 119, Austin Fritzinger with 103 and Justin Fowlkes with 102, according to the Journal-Sentinel.

Fowlkes also scored on the opening kickoff, speeding 91 yards past Whippet defenders. He scored three more first-half touchdowns as the Comets went into the half leading 48-0.

The Janesville Gazette has a full story in Saturday’s sports section.

“We just preach to our kids about execution in all three aspects of the game,” Delavan-Darien coach Steve Tenhagen told a Gazette reporter. “It’s not one player that makes the difference, but the team effort throughout the night, and I think we did a good job of showing that in all aspects.”

Here’s the box score from JSOnline.com.
