Delavan-Darien School Board President Steve Carlson announced his intent to step down from the board effective April 23, 2012. His announcement came at the April 9 board meeting in a letter to Superintendent Wendy Overturf and his fellow board members.
“Effective April 23, 2012, I am resigning from the board and the office of president,” Carlson wrote. “I am very grateful for the opportunities afforded to me by the electorate. I will always value the many relationships with administration, teachers, support staff and parents who work so hard to educate all children in or district. I wish my successor, the board and administration nothing but the best for the future.”
His letter was read at the meeting by Superintendent Overturf.
Carlson has been a board member since his appointment in 1997. He was board president since 2006. Carlson had three daughters attend Delavan-Darien schools and graduate from the Delavan-Darien High School.
Also, during a closed session portion of the meeting, Superintendent Wendy Overturf announced her intent to retire effective April 8, 2014.
She made the announcement public in an email to all district staff members after the meeting, and it was reported in the April 10, 2012, edition of the Janesville Gazette.
Overturf came to the district in 2002 as principal at Darien Elementary School. She was hired as superintendent in 2007.
Before coming to the Delavan-Darien School District, Overturf was an Associate Principal in the Fort Atkinson School District. Her 20-plus years of educational experiences include teaching students with special educational needs in Fort Atkinson and Stoughton, as well as in Michigan and Louisiana.
