Comets soccer inches closer to state

One more win and it’s on to state for the Delavan-Darien boys soccer team.

The Comets defeated Whitewater 4-1 Thursday night in a sectional semifinal game to earn a spot in the sectional final this Saturday, Oct. 24 against Madison Edgewood. Game time is at 3 p.m. in Pewaukee, the host site for the sectional.

D-DHS had two goals in each half with two goals each by Chris Doerr and Audelio Peralta. Tomas Torres had two assists in the game. Doerr and Travis Leitzke each had one.

Rainy, cold and windy conditions didn’t deter the Comets.

“The weather is temporary,” Comets coach Clay Nelson told a Janesville Gazette reporter when asked if the game should have been postponed. “The opportunity to qualify for state is permanent.”

Added Doerr, “It was fun. It was a good game.”
