Three more high school football awards were handed out to DDHS players recently.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel named running back/quarterback Justin Fowlkes to its all-area first team as a running back.
Here’s what the paper said about him:
Justin Fowlkes, 5-8, 160, sr., Delavan-Darien: Fowlkes became somewhat of a YouTube sensation thanks to an early-season highlight of him hurdling a would-be tackler, and as the season wore on he proved that he had plenty of game. He rushed for 1,890 yards in 230 carries, an 8.2-yard average, and scored 26 touchdowns. He may have been able to crack 2,000 yards, but he spent much of the second half of the season splitting time at quarterback due to an injury to the team’s starter. All he did at that position was complete 58% of his passes for 931 yards and 14 touchdowns. Not bad for a first-timer. “He’s a top-end runner right away,” Catholic Memorial coach Bill Young said. “I think they use the term ‘great athlete’ too easily, but to come in and do that (fill in at quarterback) was impressive.”
Teammates Jordan Hesebeck, a wide receiver, and Marcus McLin were Honorable Mentions on the paper’s list of the regions top players.
The trio helped lead the Comets to within a game of going to state, the furthest the program has ever been in WIAA playoffs.
Way to go, Comets!
