DDHS Cheer Squad qualifies for Nationals

Comets Cheer SquadThe Delavan Darien High School Cheer Team placed third at UCA Midwest Regionals on Dec. 4, earning the team a bid to compete at the National High School Cheerleading Championship (NHSCC) in February.

This event is held at Walt Disney World in Orlando from Feb. 10-14. The team, comprised of 13 varsity cheerleaders, will be competing in the Small Varsity Division.

The NHSCC is the most prestigious cheerleading championship in the country. More than 400 teams from across the nation attempt to qualify for Nationals through regional competitions held throughout the country during the fall. ESPN will televise the competition to a national audience.

Earning its second bid and placing third among teams from all over the Midwest was a great honor, coach Ashley Sheppard said . The team had to score above 70 percent to earn a bid. The Comets squad was one of seven bids handed out at the regional competition.  The team plans to attend the NHSCC and proudly represent Delavan-Darien High School.

Way to go, Comets!
