Tuesday’s Janesville Gazette newspaper (Jan. 4, 2011), had a nice article on the efforts to starts a Boys & Girls Club in Delavan. Read it here.
Ashley Contreras, the Delavan-Darien School District’s community outreach coordinator, is leading the way to establish a local club.
The Boys & Girls Club of America is a national organization that provides after-school programming for school-aged children in
cities and neighborhoods.
Programming offered by a local club, if one opened, would be based on the needs of the community, she told the paper. Programming possibilities include arts, sports and health, according to the article. Programs that offer outreach for members of the Latino community or for gang prevention or intervention also are available and could be good for the Delavan-Darien community, Contreras said.
