Cheerleaders bring home the hardware

DDHS cheerleading squad

The DDHS Cheer Squad recently had some great success at Nationals and two state competitions. They're shown here with their second-place trophy from Click to enlarge.

The Delavan-Darien High School varsity cheer squad brought home a lot of hardware from competitions recently.

The team placed 15th in its bracket at Nationals out of 34 teams. That event was held in Orlando in late February.

The team also placed first at the Badger Championships on February 26 and second in the Wisconsin State Championship on February 27. Both events were held in Madison.

The DDHS squad, coached by Ashely Sheppard, competes in the small varsity, division 2, girls-only, tumbling division.

The team practiced during summer, starting with the most simple facets of a routine then gradually building in more difficult elements.

Judges look for a clean routine with no mistakes and bases scores on a point rating system. The routines are 15o-seconds long, with 90 seconds set to music, and one minute doing crowd-leading cheers.

The team is coached by Ashley Sheppard and Pam Valenti, along with volunteer tumbling coaches Dave VanderHagen and Dave Peters.

Congratulations Ladies! Go Comets!
