On Thursday, May 19, the entire fifth grade class at Wileman Elementary School performed “The American Dream” musical for a large audience of parents, family and friends at Phoenix Middle School.
The musical tied in closely with what has been learned in fifth grade social studies throughout the year. Act one is about Colonial America and the American Revolution, while act two continues on through the “incredible westward movement” and expansion of the country.
The songs and parts of the musical told the audience about Betsy Ross, taxation, the Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere’s ride, the Declaration of Independence, the 13 original colonies, the electoral college and the presidency, exploring the west, the Louisiana Purchase, the Trail of Tears, the Oregon Trail, 49′ers in California, the “golden spike” and completing the transcontinental railroad, and much more.
Watch the entire production below. Darien Elementary fifth graders will present the musical Monday evening. The musical was directed by Elementary Music Teacher Donna Berg.
