“The wait is finally over for Delavan-Darien’s wrestling program,” the Janesville Gazette reads.

Yup. We couldn’t have said it any better ourselves.

For the first time in the program’s history, the Comets will be wrestling at the WIAA Division 2 State Team Championship at the UW Field House in Madison.

A semifinal match vs. Ellsworth is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3.

With the sectional final meet on the line, 120-pound sophomore Hunter Gramly came through for the Comets in a big way, defeating… no, manhandling (as the Gazette says) his Port Washington opponent 14-3 to clinch a come-from-behind 31-29 team win for the Comets.

DDHS beat Valders in the semifinals earlier Tuesday (Feb. 14) evening in the sectional semifinals, which were held at Whitewater High School.

The Gazette has the full story and photos from the sectional meet here.
