DDHS freshmen are writing winners

DELAVAN — The Walworth County Arts Council has awarded five Delavan-Darien High School freshmen awards for prose in the annual Winning Words contest.

First and second place winners, as well as honorable mentions, will go on to a second round of judging at the county level.

Receiving a first was Adam Drefs, with “A Fable…” He will receive a $100 award.

A second place winner from DDHS was Gabrielle Edwards with “The Box.” She will receive a $50 award.

Three honorable mentions went to Chris Blanchard with “True Inspiration,” Storm Peterson with “Wake Up,” and Amanda Lee with “The Office.”

All five students are in the Honors English 9 course taught by Kelly Dennis.
