Omaha, Neb. – Class of 2010 Delavan-Darien High School graduate Emily McClellan, now of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee swimming team, qualified for Wednesday’s final in the 100m breaststroke at the US Olympic Trials Tuesday with a chance to earn a trip to this summer’s Olympics on the line.
In the morning prelims, McClellan finished an outstanding fourth in the nation out of 162 swimmers, breaking the Wisconsin state record in the process with an incredible time of 1:07.45.
McClellan, who owns every breaststroke record for both UWM and the Horizon League, then finished fourth in her heat and eighth overall in semifinals with a time of 1:07.70 to advance to Wednesday’s finals.
We believe her finals swim will be on NBC. Coverage starts at 7 p.m. Check your local listings.
McClellan is swimming in the 200m breaststroke preliminaries on Friday, June 29. The semifinals are that evening with finals on Saturday, June 30, should she make them.
