The Delavan-Darien High School String Orchestra participated in the Marquette University High School Orchestra Festival on Thursday, Nov. 1.
The DDHS Orchestra students performed Corigilioni’s Voyage for String Orchestra and Schubert‘s Minuet, Aria and Minuet before guest adjudicator, Dr. Janet Jensen, Professor of String Pedagogy at UW-Madison.
Dr. Jensen worked with the Orchestra on ensemble technique.
“The students really responded to her. They enjoyed Dr. Jensen’s laid back personality and respected her thoughts about musical interpretation,” DDHS Orchestra director, Jennifer Bayerl said. “It was a thrill to perform in the beautiful Varsity Theater at Marquette.”
The students enjoyed an afternoon of experiences on the Marquette University campus: completing written evaluations while listening to two of the other 15 south eastern Wisconsin school orchestras attending the festival; lunch at the student union; a tour of the Haggerty Museum of Art; and some students visited the 500-plus-year-old St. Joan of Arc chapel.
