Former Delavan-Darien High School graduate Alana Cesarz (Class of 2011) and current basketball player for the University of Nevada-Las Vegas was recently named a starter and captain as a sophomore.

Alana, in the first game vs. Maine, had 18 points and 10 rebounds in 38 minutes of play. It was her first career double-double
In game No. 2 vs. Ohio, she had 27 points and 8 rebounds in 40 minutes of play.
UNLV went 1-1 for this tournament , losing to Maine 73-67, and defeating Ohio 60-51. Alana was named All-Tournament Team.
“It was nice to get on the right track again. We had good communication and really shared the ball well today,” said UNLV head coach Kathy Olivier. “Alana did a good job of crashing the boards and making her shots.”
Comets coach Hank Johnson was happy to see one of his former players finding great success early in a Division I college program.
“We, as a program, are very proud to see that Alana was named captain as a sophomore for UNLV,” Johnson said. “We have known about Alana’s leadership here at DDHS and it’s great to see other people have noticed at the next level.
“As a program, we would also like to congratulate Alana on making the Subway Classic All-Tournament Team this past weekend.”
