On Friday, Nov. 16, the 7th and 8th grade members of Phoenix Allegro Orchestra participated in the UW-Whitewater Middle School Orchestra Festival.

“Students experienced a morning of intense study,” said Orchestra Teacher Jennifer Bayerl.

The students headed straight into sectionals upon arrival at UW-W, where they worked in small groups with college students on techniques and skill development for their instruments.

After that, the students listened to Greendale Middle School Orchestra while completing a written evaluation of that performance. Students made observations and outlined evidence in writing to support their conclusions about eight different elements of performance.

Next, the students had a 45-minute warm-up rehearsal with their director, then performed before their clinicianSusan Chandler, lecturer in the UW-W Strings Department and an audience of orchestra students from Kenosha.

I am so proud of the Allegro Orchestra,” Bayerl said. “They worked as a team, demonstrated the Comet Code and were energized by the learning experience they had.”
