Ellyn Sorg and Kelsey Selgren were named the December Students of the Month at DDHS.
Sorg, a senior, was nominated by science teacher Shelly Sullivan. Sullivan wrote in her nomination letter:
“Ellyn’s maturity, hard work and positive attitude makes her stand out among her peers. Ellyn is the type of students who always does the right thing. If you were to observe Ellyn in class you would see her working hard, asking questions and striving to succeed. Ellyn works well with every student in class and other students look to her for leadership. Whenever she is given a task or activity, Ellyn will work diligently until she comes to an answer. Her work is thoughtful, thorough and complete.”
Selgren, also a senior, was nominated by fellow science teacher Cindy Irwin, who wrote:
“Kelsey has been a wonderful teaching assistant this semester. She is always there ready to help clean, get the lab ready, and help figure things out. It makes a world of difference to have a responsible and friendly student help me prep for labs and notice my occasional mistakes!”
Juniors Jose Perez and Alondra Castaneda were also nominated for the December award.
Math teacher Mary Beth Waychoff nominated Perez. She wrote:
“Jose is always on time and prepared for Algebra 2. Every class it is common to see his book open to the section being learned during the lecture. He looks back and forth from the book examples, board examples, and his notes. Jose consistently completes his homework neatly and on time. He checks his homework daily in class as well as in the back of the book to make sure his understanding is correct. Jose is a great model to his peers by demonstrating what good mathematicians do.”
Math teacher Kelly Anderson nominated Castaneda and wrote this about her:
“Alondra is a very hard worker. I have had her last year in Geometry and this year I have her in Algebra 2. She is always positive and willing to help other students. She is a very conscientious student and always picks up work if she missed school. Alondra is a pleasure to have in class.”
The Students of the Month winners will each receive a letter home telling of their accomplishments, name & picture on the school website and a Comet Code T-shirt! Ellyn and Kelsey will have their picture posted along with their nomination form in the display case by the school’s auditorium.
Congratulations to these students for all their accomplishments!
