Thursday morning (Jan. 31) Darien and Wileman students were treated to an outstanding performance by Opera for the Young.
Third, fourth and fifth grade students from both schools were introduced to the opera, “Cinderella,” in their music classes, where they studied the art form and explored the vocabulary in the libretto.
Eight students from each of the schools were featured alongside the four professional opera singers, performing as the opera chorus, mice, nobles, the king and queen and horses. Two teachers, one from each school, were also featured in cameo roles as the hilarious “ugly stepsisters.”
“The whole presentation far exceeded everyone’s expectations,” elementary music teacher Donna Berg said. “Thank you to the Friends for the Visual and Performing Arts, Darien’s TPO, and Wileman’s WPAC for supplying the funding for this special educational and cultural experience.”
