For the third-straight season, Milwaukee Panthers standout swimmer Emily McClellan earned a trip to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Division I Championship at Indiana University Natatorium this past weekend.

McClellan, one of the top-seeded swimmers and a junior at UWM, swam season-best times and broke UWM and Horizon League records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley (IM).

The 2010 Delavan-Darien High School graduate earned All-American honors and finished 10th and 12th overall in the country in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. McClellan also finished 36th overall in the 200 IM.

Panthers finished the NCAA Championship with 12 points, placing 32nd in the nation. That marked the most points ever scored by a Horizon League team at the national meet, men’s or women’s.

“Amazing, absolutely amazing,” said Milwaukee head coach Kyle Clements. “To get 12 points on the board for us and to finish in the top 32nd in the nation is awesome. That’s a tribute to her and the people we have around her and the team in general of where we are and where we are going.”

“I’m so happy that I made it back to finals,” McClellan said. “It is such an honor to be named All-American, and I am really happy with how everything went this week.”

McClellan earned Horizon League Women’s Swimmer of the Year honors for the third consecutive year. In addition, she just missed a trip to the London Olympics with a sixth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke at the U.S. Olympic Trials. McClellan also won the 100 breaststroke in the U.S. Open this past summer and will swim for Team USA in the World University Games this July. Both are very elite swimming events.
