Classrooms earn prizes for Book It! program efforts

Book It LogoTwo classrooms at Turtle Creek Elementary School were in the top 100 schools nationwide in Pizza Hut’s annual “Book It” classroom reading program.

The classrooms of Mr. Steve Fouts, grade 5, and Ms. Peggy Behrens, grade 3, made the top 100 out of more than 30,000 classrooms participating.

In the Book It! program, kids keep track of their minutes, pages or number of books read each month, always working toward a collective classroom goal.

When they meet their goal, they can earn a certificate for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut.

This year, an interactive component was added where the class was able to keep track of their collective minutes using the classroom SMART boards.

Both Turtle Creek classes had collectively read more than 30 minutes per day, per student for six month (October through March).

As an award for their effort, the Pizza Hut in Delavan gave each class a pizza party, on the house for the students’ reading efforts!

Great prize, great program and a great job by our students to practice their reading!
