The students in the DDHS Advanced Speech class, taught by Karen Combs, are in the process of learning how to properly work in a small group in order to solve a problem and then present the problem and solution in symposium format.
One group was able to overcome a problem when one of the team members had a planned absence that would take her to New York.
The students in the picture, from left (looking at the computer) Adam Drefs, Alina Moreno, Jennifer Hoyord, Alex Lewis, and “e-partner” Rose Wang, were able to complete their project via Skype. Wang “came to class” live from New York.
This was the first time that Combs integrated Skype with a student who had a planned absence.
Overall it was a successful use of technology and a great way to keep students engaged in their learning when away from the classroom.
