The Janesville Gazette today (Monday, May 20) published a front-page article about the Delavan-Darien School District’s efforts to build better connections with our Latino families.

The article specifically highlights free English language classes offered to adult learners and our hiring of two Latino liaison staff member positions.

The effort is paying off. Parents enrolled in the English class, taught by Turtle Creek Elementary School office and classroom aide Ray Paez, told the reporter they are taking the classes so they can better communicate with their child’s teachers.

Parents also report reading to their children at home in English, and the kids are helping their parents out with English pronunciations, too! Win win for everyone!
