Kazan, Russia – Delavan-Darien High School Class of 2010 graduate Emily McClellan, now of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee swimming team, posted another outstanding swim and took home a bronze medal Tuesday to wrap up her showing for Team USA at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia.

McClellan won a bronze medal Tuesday as part of the 4x100m medley relay. She helped the Americans post the second-fastest time in prelims before taking third in the final.

The Milwaukee senior-to-be also had a strong swim in the final of the 50m breaststroke, just missing the podium and finishing seventh overall as the top American finisher with a personal-best time of 31.64 seconds. Iulia Efimova of host Russia won the event with a University Games’ record 30.12 seconds.

Earlier in the week, McClellan posted the fifth-fastest time out of 39 swimmers in prelims of the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:08.88. She later took ninth overall in the semifinals, just missing a spot in the event final.

The Panther standout earned a spot for the World University Games after an incredible summer in the pool one year ago. After just missing a spot at the London Olympics in the 100 breaststroke, McClellan won the same event at the U.S. Open by nearly a full second. She is one of just 17 American women selected to compete for Team USA.

Taking place every two years, the World University Games are an international multi-sport event organized for university athletes by the International Sports Federation (FISU). Swimmers on the 2013 World University Games Team roster were selected based upon their performance at the 2012 U.S. Open Championships. All athletes selected for the team must be at least 17 years old and less than 28 years old on Jan. 1, 2013.
