The second annual Hispanic Heritage Festival is coming to the Dealvan-Darien community from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. this Saturday, September 21, at Phoenix Park in Delavan (corner of Washington Street and Second Street).
The Festival is being held during National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) and is being conducted to not only promote Hispanic heritage, but also, in the spirit of unity, to bring all citizens of Delavan and the surrounding communities together to promote a unified, inclusive community for everyone.
The Festival will have a variety of activities, including: various vendor booths, mariachi bands, a kid’s corner with games and face painting, folk dancers, a Quince and fashion show by Alexa’s Boutique, community speakers, authentic Hispanic food, a disc jockey and more.
Delavan-Darien School District Director of Language Acquisition Ron Sandoval is one of the featured speakers at the event. He’ll be discussing district plans to develop a dual-language immersion program in our schools in the next few years.
Organizers say it will be a great opportunity to get out and meet fellow Delavan-Darien community members and neighbors, and experience the rich traditions that are a part of Hispanic culture. It is a true celebration of diversity in our community.
The event is being put on by the Regional Alliance of Students and Professionals and the La Luz Del Mundo (Light of the World) Church in Delavan.
The Hispanic Heritage Festival is free for ALL to attend, and is appropriate for all ages.
