Trio of underclassmen are October Students of the Month

A trio of students were named the October Students of the Month at DDHS. They are freshman Dorian Miller, sophomore John Sorg and his classmate Christian Aguado.

Here are the nomination letters the winners received from their teachers:

Dorian Miller. Nominated by orchestra teacher’s Ms. Jennifer Bayerl and Ms. Filipaik: “Dorian set himself apart right from the start of the school year by working to memorize music (before the class was even asked to), and choosing the most difficult parts to learn. He performed as a soloist in the Cornfest parade. He takes learning seriously (while having fun) and seeks out every opportunity he can to develop his musicianship.”

John Sorg. Nominated by technology education teacher Mr. Mike Fellin: “John shows a level of responsibility beyond his grade; he is in class and ready to work before the bell rings. John has materials prepared to complete tasks and completes tasks immediately and ahead of schedule. The effort given to produce a product of high quality and his willingness to help with additional tasks is exceptional. John displays a high degree of maturity in his actions with others.”

Christian Aguado. Nominated by Spanish teacher Ms. Liz Lieske Evans: “Christian is doing excellent work in Spanish 3. He participates in class, and he uses Spanish during class activities. He is always prepared, and he is very willing to help classmates when they want help understanding something.

“I have been impressed with Christian’s dedication to his classwork and the respect he shows others. I look forward to seeing what he will accomplish during the course of his studies in Spanish. Congratulations to a great start to the school year. ¡Buen trabajo señor!”

Nominees for the award this month included:

Sophomores Beth-shua Cano, Whitnee Haggermaker, and Vanessa Valadez Olivares, and senior Rhiannon Katzenberg.

Winners of the Student of the Month awards receive a letter home, their picture and write up displayed in the case by the auditorium and on the DDHS website.  Winners also receive a Comet Code T-shirt!! Nominees will also receive a letter home and a Comet Code T-shirt!
