Third graders collecting items food for pantry

food-driveAs part of Turtle Creek Elementary School’s upcoming Grade 3 math unit titled “Collections and Travel Stories”, students were asked to collect 1,000 items of something.

The third grade teaching team wanted to tie in the math unit with the Social Studies theme of “Communities.” Therefore starting Friday, Nov. 1, the classes will start collecting nonperishable food items that will be donated to a local food pantry.

Consider helping the third graders give back to our Delavan-Darien community while learning how to count and add numbers to 1,000. Send a few items over to Turtle Creek each week.  The math unit will take a few weeks to complete and the food collection drive will continue until the week before Thanksgiving.

“We appreciate your support and help in making connections between our learning and helping others,” members of the third grade teaching team said.
