DDHS September/October Rotary Students Announced

Nicholas Bahaveolos

Erin De Jong, daughter of Maria and Tim De Jong, and Nico Bahaveolos, son of Monica and John Bahaveolos, have been selected as the Delavan Rotary Club students for the month of September.

Erin is active in swimming, marching and pep band, choir, varsity club, yearbook, Comet Mentors and school musicals. She is a member of the National Honor Society.  Erin actively volunteers at her church working in the nursery, with Children’s Worship, Vacation Bible School, and has also been on two mission trips.  She also volunteers at Turtle Creek Elementary with the Good News Club.  Further, Erin has worked with Operation Christmas Child since pre-school.  Erin plans to attend a four-year college to become a nurse.

Nico participates in soccer, swimming, and track, and previously basketball, baseball, and break dance club.  He is a member of the National Honor Society.  Nico volunteers with Booster Club, and with his youth group helping with the food drive and St. Nick’s breakfast.  Nico has worked with Strategic Planning for the Delavan-Darien School District and also volunteers at Willowfield Nursing Home. After high school, Nico plans to attend college. He has not decided on a major, but is considering a career in mechanical engineering or computer software engineering, and a minor in humanitarian work or philosophy.

As recipients of this award, Erin and Nico were escorted by an administrator at D-DHS, to the Rotary Club luncheon at Lake Lawn Lodge September 23, 2013.

October:

Scott Ekman

Mikayla Severson, daughter of Shari and Joe Severson, and Scott Ekman, son of Bonny and Mark Ekman, have been selected as the Delavan Rotary Club students for the month of October.

Mikayla is active in fall plays, winter musicals and spring One Act plays.  She also participates in volleyball, track and yearbook.  She is a member of the National Honor Society.  Mikayla volunteers at her church with VBS, at S.M.I.L.E.S. (Special Methods in Learning Equine Skills) in Darien and with the D-DHS Booster Club.  After high school Mikayla plans to attend a four-year college.

Scott is a member of stage crew, Comet Mentors and SHout (Students Helping Out ) and is involved in student council.  Scott is a member of the National Honor Society.  He volunteers with the farmers market, Phoenix band shell and has worked with Strategic Planning for the Delavan-Darien School District.  After high school, Scott plans to attend college to study pre-med and become a doctor.
