The Darien Elementary School fourth and fifth grade students had the opportunity to take part history Friday, Nov. 22, by participating in the Darien Community Center groundbreaking event.
The students led the Pledge of Allegiance and listened to remarks by community and state officials, including Village Administrator Diane Dykstra; Darien Community Development Chairman Dean Logterman; Brenda Hicks-Sorenson, the vice president of economic and community development for the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation; Lori Wells, assistant to the state director, USDA Rural Development; and Wisconsin 31st Assembly District Representative Amy Loudenbeck.
After listening to a history lesson by Wisconsin’s Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, Darien fourth grade students Abby Cavaliere, Jalen Hatton, and Destiny Czarnecki were invited to assist with the groundbreaking for the new community center. They were official shovel-holders!
This historical and social studies event will live on in the memories of the Darien Elementary students who witnessed and participated in the event.
