The Delavan-Darien School District is hosting an informational meeting for all parents regarding the new Dual Language Immersion Program that’s coming to the district next school year.
The free informational session is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Phoenix Middle School Library (414 Beloit St., Delavan).
Anyone interested in having their child be a part of the program is encouraged to attend the meeting if they are able.
The Dual Language Immersion Program will be open in the 2014-15 school year for students in preschool (4-year-old kindergarten), regular kindergarten and first grade.
The goal of the program is to have every student enrolled become bilingual, biliterate and bicultural, meaning they can fluently read, write, and understand not only English and Spanish languages, but cultural components of each, as well.
Research shows that learning a second language can benefit students by:
- accelerating academic success through higher-order thinking skills;
- enhancing communication skills;
- developing an appreciation for diversity;
- gaining future personal benefits such as enhanced career, business and travel opportunities.
All parents in the greater Delavan-Darien area are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting to find out how students can be a part of this new and exciting program.
