nhsDelavan-Darien High School welcomed 37 students — five seniors and 32 juniors — into the National Honor Society at a ceremony at the school Sunday, Dec. 8.

Joining Delavan-Darien’s Louise Jacobson Chapter of the National Honor Society were seniors Jameson Davis, Avery Hembrook, Emily Moyer, Alejandra Ramirez-Navarro and Michael Smith; and juniors Brooke Boss, Helen Bourgeois, Justin Brown, Timothy Clark, Jesse Collins, Cindy Crawford, Adam Drefs, Mikayla Farley, Alexander Grover, Maxwell Grover, Sarah Hardwick, Macie Hill, Amanda Huerta, Katie Jones, Kyle Krueger, Amanda Lee, Kyle Lefel, Benjamin Logterman, Alonzo Ortiz, Priya Patel, Andrew Pierson, Leticia Rizo, Vanessa Rosales, Jacob Scheff, Bradley Schultz, Carter Schwarz, Samuel Seitz, Mitchell Strom, Madison Stronach, Dana Truckenbrod, Kalan Welch, and Emily Zugay.

“I am very proud of our newly-inducted students,” NHS Adviser Sara Terrill said. “It is an honor to advise such a distinguished group of scholars from our school.”

Eligibility for the National Honor Society is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have attended the school for the equivalent of one semester and who have a cumulative scholastic average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent standard of excellence.

NHS members also exemplify service, leadership, character and citizenship in their schools and communities. This must be shown before they are considered for induction into the society.

At the banquet, NHS members who were inducted last year honored each new member by discussing their positive attributes, which aided in their acceptance into the NHS. The speeches also reflected the purpose and requirements of NHS: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character.

As a service organization, NHS members serve the community and school through various projects. All members are required to fulfill at least 10 hours of service through NHS in order to wear the white stole signifying their NHS membership on graduation.
