Nine Delavan-Darien High School juniors were named to represent DDHS at Badger Boys and Badger Girls State this year.

The female representatives are Helen Bourgeois, Emily Zugay, Madison Stronach and Amanda Huerta, who is an alternate.

The male representatives include Tim Clark, Max Grover, Andrew Pierson, and Alonzo Ortiz and Adam Drefs, who are alternates.

Students who participate in Badger Boys and Badger Girls State have met the following qualifications:

  • have an interest in government and citizenship,
  • excelled academically (Boys upper 1/3 & Girls upper ½ of their class),
  • outstanding qualities of — leadership, good moral character, cooperativeness, dependability and participation in extra-curricular activities.

“This is a wonderful opportunity and experience given to students at DDHS,” Principal Mark Schmitt said. “It opens the door for many other opportunities, such as scholarships that are offered only to Badger State Delegates.”

Badger Boys and Badger Girls State are experiences like no other. They are programs that teach the workings of government “by doing”; but they are much more than that. They are a week-long journey through a great many things that make us who we are; leaders, friends, students, athletes, and most of all citizens of our respective cities, towns, and our great state.  Badger State is a journey that can be described as the most challenging and most rewarding (and fun) experiences by those who have already participated in the program.

Members of Legion Post 95, Legion Women’s Auxiliary, Elks Club, Lions Club and Optimist Club pay for the cost for Badger Boys & Girls State.

Badger Boys is a premiere Wisconsin youth program which creates an environment in which future leaders develop, and put into practice, skills that will benefit them for a lifetime.  Badger Boys provides everything necessary to help promote leadership and learning through a framework of hands-on creation of their own mock government among some of the best young men of Wisconsin. Gathering such a diverse and quality group of young men is by itself powerful. Badger Boys State is at Ripon College on June 14 – 21, 2014. For Badger Boys
