On Monday, March 24, Phoenix Middle School eighth grade Peer Helpers Hallie Stirmel, Meghan Roum, Brianna Cardenas, Makayla Graham, Laura Farley and Erin Sorg, along with the school counselor, Ms. Gen Reed, and Principal Mark Weerts visited fifth-grade students at Turtle Creek Elementary School to prepare them for transition into middle school the fall of 2014.
They were at Turtle Creek for two hours. The first half-hour began with two fifth grade classes discussing rules and benefits of being at Phoenix Middle School.
The Peer Helpers developed a skit to relate this information to the students and at the end there was a question/answer period.
It was great to see the Peer Helpers and Phoenix staff have lunch with the students as well as go outside with them for recess. The Turtle Creek students were really excited about this.
After recess, the other two fifth-grade classes experienced the event from the middle school Peer Helpers and staff. Some fears and nerves were calmed after learning more about Phoenix Middle School.
There is a parent night coming up, Tuesday, April 29, for families to have dinner and learn more about Phoenix Middle School. More details to follow. Stay tuned for a flyer coming home with fifth graders!
