March was “Music In Our Schools Month,” and it was certainly a busy one for Phoenix Middle School musicians.
One of the many ways the school and its student musicians celebrate the music-recognition month is with a recital.
On March 1, band, orchestra and choir students performed at the Wisconsin School Music Association’s District Solo & Ensemble Festival, which this year was held at Lake Geneva Middle School.
Hundreds of students from throughout the area performed before judges at the festival and received ratings based on their level of technique, expression and presentation. The top performers from Phoenix Middle School were invited to participate in a recital on Tuesday, March 11th.
The students performed their festival works on the Phoenix Auditorium stage for an audience of their families and friends.
Phoenix Middle School Orchestra Director Jennifer Bayerl said, “We’ve held this recital in March for many years now. This may have been the best one yet. I am so impressed by the confidence, poise and musicality their performances.”
Following the recital, the audience, performers and music teachers mingled over a cookie and punch reception.
Way to go, Phoenix Middle School musicians!
