Delavan-Darien High School softball pitcher Jennah Speth has was named an honorable mention on the 2014 Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association All-State Team.
She is the only player from Walworth County to receive an All-State mention this year.
Speth, a sophomore pitcher, was also a Southeast District First Team All-District honoree for her efforts on the field. Her dominating play also awarded her Co-Southern Lakes Conference Player of the Year honors.
She helped lead the Comets to a school-record 22 victories this past season and a regional title. The Comets were just two runs away from advancing to their first ever sectional final game, losing in the sectional semifinals 6-4 to McFarland for the second straight year.
On the mound, Speth finished the year fourth in the state in in strikeouts (224) and seventh in the state in total wins.
At the plate, she was third in the state with 54 hits and second in total runs scored (47) and runs batted in (49). She also was tied for the lead with 16 doubles and No. 4 in the state with eight home runs.
She was the Comets’ Most Valuable Player and a first-team All Southern Lakes Conference player.
“Jennah had a great season this year hitting and pitching,” Coach Hank Johnson said. “She helped lead us back to sectionals. She puts in a lot of work in the offseason for softball to make these things happen and it’s great to see her work pay off. We, as a program, look forward to seeing where she can help lead us in the future with two years remaining.”
