Great job by our 75 Phoenix Middle School NJHS, Peer Helpers and Student Council members who raked the yards of about a dozen Delavan homes as part of a “Rake and Run” community service activity.
The project replaced the traditional performance field trip and did the work free of charge (no ticket or bus costs). Walmart and Lowe’s even donated some rakes for the students to use.
The students split into four teams (all supervised by Phoenix staff, including Mr. Gross, Ms. Rima, Mr. Nielsen and Ms. Caucutt) and voluntarily raked the yards of homeowners near the school. They did work on the yards of senior citizens, a retired teacher and a single mother.
The homeowners signed up in advance and the students were very excited and willing to put in the work for their community members. Check out the Nov. 13 Delavan Enterprise for a great article about the project.
