The morning of Tuesday, Dec. 9, Phoenix Middle School staff learned of the passing of one of the Phoenix Middle School family, seventh grader Lilly Perry. She was 12 and passed away unexpectedly from a medical condition.
We will share further information about her passing on this page as we learn more.
The following was shared with Phoenix students and staff after learning of her passing:
Last night at 11PM, our school lost a shining star. It is with heavy heart and great sadness that we must let you know that Lilly Perry passed away. Lilly will be missed by all of her friends and family. Her positive outlook and wonderful smile made her a great friend to so many of us. We will be offering counseling support for those of you who need it. I want you to know that however you feel is okay. It is okay to cry. It is okay to be angry. It is okay to feel kind of numb and it is okay to be unsure how you feel. As many students and staff struggle with this terrible loss, I ask that especially today you treat each other with kindness and patience.
Hank Schmelz, Principal
Additional counselors were made available to students and staff at Phoenix and at Delavan-Darien High School, where Lilly’s siblings attend.
