When Primary Election Day gets here on Tuesday, Feb. 17, some voters in the Delavan-Darien School District will cast their ballots in a different location.
The municipal voting offices in the towns of Richmond, Sugar Creek and Walworth (all in Walworth County) will be closed to voting on Feb. 17. Voters in those townships will cast their ballots regarding the district’s $1.25 million, two-year, non-recurring operational referendum at the City of Delavan Municipal Building, 123 S. Second St. (Map).
The school district’s referendum was the only thing on the ballot in those locations. Voter turnout in those three towns last spring did not meet a minimum threshold for remaining open and state laws (SS120.06(9)(b)1.1) allowed those locations to be closed on Primary Election Day.
All other voting locations in the Delavan-Darien School District will be open, including the city and town of Delavan, the village and town of Darien, town of Sharon and town of Bradford (Rock County).
All voters in the Delavan-Darien School District, including those in Richmond, Sugar Creek and Walworth, can do absentee voting or in-person early voting at their municipal clerks offices from now through Feb. 13. Voters can also register to vote at their clerks offices now through Feb. 13, or on Election Day. No registration or in-person early voting can take place on the day before the election.
Referendum Information Session Scheduled
A public information session about the referendum has been scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at the School Administration Center, 324 Beloit St., Delavan (map). Any citizen living in the Delavan-Darien School District is encouraged to attend. Superintendent Robert Crist will be on hand to explain the district’s need for a referendum.
