The Phoenix Middle School Empty Bowls event raised more than $1,700 for the Delavan Food Pantry Tuesday, March 24.
The first-of-its-kind event at Phoenix Middle School saw hundreds of people coming in the doors to sample soups made by both area restaurants and school staff members.
Each person who came in and made a $5 or more donation got a hand-crafted and painted porcelain bowl created in Hugh Petersen’s art room by Phoenix students or staffers. Attendees were also able to bid on silent auction items, and they were treated to a recital by Phoenix Middle School musicians and singers who performed earlier this year at the WSMA State Solo & Ensemble Festival.
Additional support for the event came from: Ace Hardware, Anytime Fitness, Bradley’s Department Store, Coach’s Locker, Culver’s of Delavan, Delavan-Darien High School, Elizabeth’s Cafe, Hernandez’s Mexican Restaurant, Kunes Country Auto Group, Lake Lawn Resort, Little Cesar’s Pizza, Market Street Sandwiches, McDonald’s, Orange Tree Café, Perkins Restaurant, Stinebrink’s Piggly Wiggly and Wal-Mart.
