If you passed by Darien Elementary School this afternoon (about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 2), you may have noticed police and emergency responders at the building and students evacuating.
This was an “active shooter” drill only and students and staff practiced exiting the building swiftly and getting to a safe location.
Police and emergency responders were present to observe, take part in the drill, and to help teach students and staff what to do should there ever be such a situation.
Teachers practiced safety procedures to ensure they had all students accounted for and had their “emergency go bags” with them.
Following the drill, school and emergency responders will review the exercise and update emergency procedures as appropriate.
