All kids in the Delavan-Darien community are welcome to receive a free breakfast snack weekday mornings this summer, courtesy of the Delavan United Church of Christ.
The church’s “Hunger at our Doorstep” study a group decided to step up and try to meet the need to feed hungry children during the summer months.
Today, it launched the “Andy’s Breakfast Club,” or “ABC,” in honor of the late Andy Himebauch, a former Delavan-Darien student and UCC member.
A prepackaged breakfast snack will be served 8:30 until 9:30 a.m. weekdays from June 16 through September 4 in Phoenix Park, across the street from the church (map). In case of inclement weather, the snacks will be available in the Phoenix Park Bandshell.
The prepackaged meal will include: milk, fruit, a pastry, cereal or granola bar, gogurt, or cheese stick.
The UCC is also partnering with the Delavan-Darien School District’s summer Bookmobile to provide popsicles and a healthy snack that district reading specialists will distribute when on the route.
If you would like to donate to the cause, checks can be made to the Delavan UCC with “ABC” in the memo line. It costs:
- $2 per day, per child
- $10 per week
- $40 per month
- $120 for the whole summer
Food donations cannot be accepted as the UCC must ensure packaging and expiration dates.
