DELAVAN – Delavan will be holding its fifteenth annual Scarecrow fest on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18-19. This event will take place along the main street of historic Downtown Delavan, and will include a variety of family-friendly events.
Delavan is asking the community to get involved before the fest by creating their own scarecrows and entering them in the annual scarecrow contest. Winners will be picked through public voting, and the top scarecrows will be awarded prizes. Scarecrows will be “on parade” in Downtown Delavan through early October. Visitors may also build their own scarecrows to take home for a nominal $10 fee, which will cover all supplies and help.
There will be a carnival starting Friday night and running all day Saturday. Visitors who attend the carnival Friday night will be able to purchase wristbands for unlimited rides from 5 to 9 p.m.
Also, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in other activities on Saturday including a petting zoo, pumpkin painting, scarecrow building and a kids’ zone with crafts, corn-box play and other surprises.
DDHS Senior Megan Rupnik, is organizing the Kids Zone through a sponsorship from the new DAYS Foundation. She’ll have special activities for children — toddlers through fifth grade — including crafts, corn-box play, and other surprises. (The DAYS Foundation was created to encourage youth to participate in community service projects. The foundation can also help fund projects with grants and sponsorships. Students, check it out!)
Compete in the “Amazing Race” that is being sponsored by the Delavan Parks Department wherein teams of four will race through mental and physical challenges throughout the City.
Feeling lucky? Participate in the duck raffle with a chance to win cash and other prizes. Relax and enjoy the live music or kick up your heels and join your neighbors in “dancing in the street.”
