County Retired Educators support Comet Care Center

WCAREAcheckPhoenix Middle School counselor Steve Gross accepts a $100 check from the Walworth County Area Retired Educators Association (WCAREA) presented by Kay Sargent, member.

The monies were donated to the district’s Comet Care Center, which supplies K-12 students in need with personal and school items, including gently-worn clothing.

Recognizing that some students go without essential needs for their everyday life, Gross began collecting items and eventually teamed up with businesses and the community to build this area at Phoenix and expand the coordinated outreach beyond Delavan-Darien High School.

“It’s all about the kids. It takes time to get the word out, but slowly they find their way to the Center and are amazed to find things they need,” Gross said. “It’s all about paying it forward.”

If you or your organization wish to contribute to the Comet Care Center, please contact Gross at 262-728-2642 ext. 4220.

The WECARA is a non-profit group of retired educators that meets four times a year and looks to connect and maintain educational goals beyond their years of retirement.  For more information contact Margaret Mitchell at 262-742-2693.
