Our Delavan-Darien High School athletes made us #DDCometProud this fall season with some amazing performances. Check out the recap from our DDHS Athletics Department.
DDHS Fall Sports Recap
Cross County – Erin Sorg placed 1st at the Southern Lakes Conference meet, 2nd in the Sectional and 5th at the State Meet in Division 2. Overall, the girls squad placed 7th of 8 in conference with a young team. The boys team placed 8th of 8 at SLC Meet. Both groups progressed as the season went on, culminating with Erin’s 5th place at the State Meet in Wisconsin Rapids this past Saturday, Oct. 31.
Football – An exciting year finished with a 5-5 record (3-4 in the SLC) and qualified for the Playoffs for the first time since 2010. Needing a victory in the final SLC game of the year to have a chance at the playoffs, the team rallied from a 34-6 deficit in the 4th quarter against Wilmot and eventually won 47-40 in double overtime. In the Playoffs, the Comets lost to #1 seeded Kewaskum on a rainy, windy night. The Comets did have a nice win over SLC rival Elkhorn and posted some solid non-conference victories, too, against playoff-caliber opponents.
Soccer (Boys) – Ranked #1 all year in the state polls for Division 3, the Comets finished 23-1, Southern Lakes Conference Champs (9-0) and extending their winning streak to 29 games—dating to last year—before coming up short in the Sectional Semi-final, losing to #5-ranked Whitnall 2-1. A true team atmosphere, 20 different players had either scored a goal or an assist for the Comets this fall. The team also broke a state record for goals scored this season with 140. For the second year in a row, DDHS sponsored a JV2 team in addition to the varsity and JV teams (over 50 participants in boys soccer this fall).
Swimming (Girls) – What the Comets lacked in experience, they made up for in enthusiasm. A young group, the Comets finished 8th of 8 in the SLC, but improved as the season progressed. Increasing participation numbers and vast improvement over the course of the season is plenty of optimism for the new coaching staff. DDHS also hosted the SLC conference swim meet this past season, the first since 2010.
Tennis (Girls) – A whopping 40 girls were on the Tennis team this year (we have a no cut policy in tennis). While the varsity team struggled (0-7 in SLC Dual meets), the JV team held its own. DDHS also hosted a WIAA Sub-Sectional for the first time.
Volleyball – The varsity volleyball team finished in 4th place at the SLC conference tournament. DDHS is the lone Division 2 team in the strong volleyball Southern Lakes Conference (a SLC school has been in the Division 1 State Championship the last 6 years). As #3 Seed in the Regional, DDHS lost to the #2 seed Edgerton after defeating Clinton in the regional first round. The Comets won their own tournament this year and placed 12th of 32 teams at the prestigious UW-Oshkosh HS Volleyball Tourney.
