A big Thank You to the Delavan WalMart store for donating 20 $50 gift cards to the staff at Phoenix Middle School.

The store’s Teacher Rewards Program has been going on for more than five years now. Each year, the store picks an area school as the recipient of the $1,000 in gift cards. Teachers can use the cards for classroom supplies, rewards for students, snacks for a classroom party or whatever they choose, said store manager Tim Casey.

“Getting $1,000 dollars like that is very appreciated. We had very happy staff,” at Wednesday’s staff meeting, Principal Hank Schmelz said.

Some of the ideas on the “shopping lists” include healthy (yet delicious) snacks, consumable school supplies (pens, pencils, colored pencils, etc.), and maybe a new Wii activity game for the Phoenix Fitness Center. One teacher is going to get supplies to make personal mini-whiteboards for her students, and buy feminine hygiene products for the girls in her class.

Way cool!
