The week of Jan. 11-15 is Wisconsin’s Adult School Crossing Guard Recognition Week.
Wisconsin State Superintendent Tony Evers has issued a proclamation declaring the same.
Each day dedicated adult crossing guards across Wisconsin show up at their assigned crossings to assist students in their journeys to and from school.
The recognition week was developed through a collaborative partnership of agencies and organizations representing state, county and local levels. Members of the partnership include AAA Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Police Department, Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Superior Police Department, Traffic & Parking Control Company, Inc., Madison Police Department, Wisconsin Traffic Safety Officers Association, Wisconsin Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association, Wisconsin School Safety Coordinators Association, Wisconsin Highway Safety Coordinator’s Association, and the Department of Public Instruction.
If you see our Delavan-Darien crossing guards around town, be sure to “STOP” and show your appreciation. Kids, say “Thank You” with a smile for the service that they do to keep you safe. Parents, if you’re so inclined, a small token of appreciation can go a long way (hand warmers, cookies, a thank you card, etc.).
