Day of Community Volunteering is May 21

DAYSFoundationThe DAYS Foundation is in the early stages of planning its May 21st Delavan-Darien Youth Service Saturday event.

The foundation’s goal is to have as many high school students as possible volunteering throughout the Delavan and Darien communities.

“We envision many sites with many different types of volunteer work, such as outdoor clean up, indoor clean up, organizing and painting, working with children and animals, visiting senior homes and more,” said Julie Supernaw, DAYS Foundation’s executive director.

In addition to youth volunteers, DAYS is in need of organizations or programs to come forward as site supervisors to not only provide volunteering opportunities, but also to help oversee the work that the youth will do.

After the day of volunteering, DAYS is planning on hosting an after-party (details are to be announced) to celebrate the youth, the service organizations and the community.

Any youth interested in volunteering or local organizations interested in providing outlets for volunteering are asked to call or email Supernaw to get the process started as soon as possible.

ABOUT DAYS FOUNDATION

http://daysfoundation.org/about/

The DAYS Foundation is a non-profit organization that was created to empower the youth of the Delavan-Darien community for positive change. We believe that many young people have great ideas for improving the community, and we aim to help these ideas become realities. DAYS provides inspiration, mentoring and grant opportunities for student-initiated and student-led service projects.

The DAYS website also serves as a resource for high school students who wish to help the community – visit the ‘Volunteer’ page for a list of local service projects.

The chance to serve others is an opportunity for students to increase community ties, develop skills, strengthen talents, widen horizons, increase pride and open doors to the future.
