WSD 5K Color Run set for June 4

The Wisconsin School for the Deaf is once again hosting a “Firebird’s 5K Run/Walk” on Saturday, June 4, 2016.

It is the second year for the event, which provides a link between WSD’s Wellness Initiative and the community, as well as providing support for WSD’s Special Olympics athletes.

WSD’s Wellness Initiative provides health and exercise-related resources and support. The school’s Special Olympics program helps individuals with disabilities overcome barriers through sports.

This year’s 5K Run/Walk will be a “Color Run.” This fun, healthy addition to the 5K includes four “color stations” and a finish line “color celebrations.” The colors that rain down on participants are non-toxic cornstarch-based products.

The 5K Run/Walk will begin and end at WSD, located at 309 W. Walworth Ave., Delavan. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the Run/Walk starting at 8:45. The route heads toward downtown Delavan and through the Arboretum on Lake Comus before returning to WSD.

Businesses and organizations are encouraged to consider sponsorship of the event. A pledge of $250 will get a sponsor’s name listed on the event T-Shirts.
