Four-dozen Delavan-Darien French and Spanish language class students took a field trip to UW-Madison on March 8th.
All students stopped at an authentic French bakery, La Baguette, before heading to the campus. French students were able to order and make change in French with the French owners. Many sampled a real “pain au chocolat” or “croissant.”
On campus, students were divided up and took different tours of the Chazen Art Museum in either French or Spanish. The museum was large and filled with interesting artwork. It was tough to pack it all into the one-hour visits and many hoped they could come back another time.
The French students sat in on different University French classes at Van Hise Hall and enjoyed seeing how college classes are similar and different to high school classes. The French students then all met up at The French House, a university residence hall with a real chef, located right on Lake Mendota.
Students enjoyed a great buffet French meal with different quiches, salad, homemade French breads, and chocolate cake. Students were required to speak in French and were surrounded by college students speaking French exclusively.
The Spanish students went to the Mexican Restaurant, Los Gemelos, where they had the opportunity to enjoy some Mexican dishes, like tortillas with salsa, enchiladas, frijoles, and Mexican rice. Some students tried “agua de horchata” to drink.
After lunch the Spanish students had some time to visit the small stores around the campus.
Overall, the trip was a great success!
