Wear Purple to Turtle Creek Ice Cream social this Friday, June 3

Turtle Creek Elementary School students and their families are invited to Friday evening’s Ice Cream Social and Book Fair, going on from 5-7:30 p.m. at the school.

Books will be available with a buy-one-get-one deal going on. Attendees will also get a free ice cream treat and the play ground will be open.

Representatives from the city Park and Rec. Department and Aram Public Library will be on hand to talk about their summer programs. Kids and families can also learn about the Delavan-Darien Bookmobile.

Students and parents are asked to wear purple to show support to first grader Giselle Venegas, who is still recovering from a serious and tragic auto accident. Her mother, Maria Flores, father, Carlos Venegas, and toddler-aged brother Carlos, were all killed in the crash, along with an occupant in another vehicle. Three others were also injured.

Giselle and her family were on the way to a family member’s wedding last Saturday afternoon at the time of the accident.

There will be a fundraiser for the family featuring a chance to win a $275 gift certificate to Timber Ridge Lodge and Water Park in Lake Geneva.

The visitation and funerals are scheduled for Friday afternoon at St. Andrew’s Church in Delavan.
